1. Are there any hall events?
The wardening team and the hall seniors will be organising a number of events throughout the year to help you get to know each other (and us!) better. These will include breakfast every Sunday, butteries (where we cook you all dinner) once a month, parties and events in our common room, film nights, trips to parts of London and more. Most importantly, we’d like to hear from you what events you’d like organised. Throughout the first term we will also be organising kitchen dinners so everyone in the hall can meet the wardening team.
2. How can I get involved in hall life?
There are lots of opportunities to get involved, the main one being joining the hall committee. This will meet regularly throughout the year so you can suggest any improvements or propose events for the hall. It’s a reasonable commitment, but also hugely rewarding. We will also be setting up a football team, plus some other groups which you are more than welcome to join!
3. Where can I collect my post?
Your post will be delivered to your mailbox in the foyer of the Hall. Any packages or letters requiring a signature will be delivered to the security lodge in Weeks – an email will be sent to you to let you know that a letter or parcel is awaiting collection.
4. What supermarkets are closest to the hall?
There are a wide variety of supermarkets (big and small), and corner stores within walking distance from the Hall, not to mention the “Essentials” convenience store on the ground floor of the Hall!
• Tesco Express: Old Brompton Road (by South Ken Station), 5min
• Tesco Express : Gloucester Road, 10min
• Sainsburys: Brompton Road (Local), 10min;
• Sainsburys: Cromwell Road (Superstore), 15min
• Waitrose: Gloucester Road, 10min

5. Where can I register with a doctor?
You must register with the Imperial College Health Centre, which is located on the ground floor of Selkirk Hall (one of the Southside Halls in Prince’s Gardens). You should do this as soon as possible after you arrive. The Health Centre will give you a proof of registration document which you must give to the Warden. Please note that international students are required to bring their passport upon registration. You may also register with the College Dental Service, located next door to the Health Centre, on the ground floor of Tizard Hall.
6. What should I do if I’m experiencing any problems?
The wardening team are here primarily for your welfare. If you are having difficulties with any aspect of your time at Imperial and particularly within the hall environment, we would be happy to talk it through with you. Anything you discuss with us remains confidential between the team. Don’t feel shy about knocking on our doors or coming to speak to us- we were all once freshers in halls and remember what it was like! Alternatively do chat informally to one of the seniors whenever you see one of us around.
7. What is the role of the Warden / Subwardens?
The Wardens are here to ensure that the Hall runs smoothly and that any problems you might encounter are addressed early. We are all members of the academic staff of College or PhD graduate students, so we know how College operates and are here to help you. During term-time, there is always a Warden on duty overnight on weekdays and throughout the weekend. In the event of an emergency, the Duty Warden can be contacted on the duty mobile. Outside these times (i.e., during normal working hours on weekdays) it is best to contact the Hall Supervisor who is located in the Hall Supervisor’s office on the ground floor of Gabor Hall (next door to Wilkinson).
8. What is the role of the Hall Seniors?
Hall Seniors are students who have already lived at least one year in a Hall of Residence and are returning to help run the hall. Their primary role is to help the Wardening Team with organising a lively programme of social events. They also know exactly what it’s like coming to Imperial for the first time, so will be able to answer many of the questions you may have.
9. Can I sub-let my room when I’m not using it?
No, this is prohibited and will lead to you losing your room in halls.
10. Can I lend my ID/swipecard to someone else?
You must not lend your card to anyone else. Keep in mind that the card serves as both your College identity card as well as granting you access to College facilities such as the Library and the Sports Centre, your department and your room. Keep it with you at all times!
11. What happens if I lose my ID/swipecard?
If you lose your card, replacements can be obtained during the day from the ID Card Office in the Sherfield building at a cost of £10 each. If you lose your card outside of office hours, Security in Weeks Hall or the Duty Warden will be able to help you get into your room.
12. Is there a cash machine in halls?
Yes, it (together with other vending machines) is in the foyer of the shop, on the ground floor of Wilkinson hall. It is available 24 hours a day, by using your ID/swipecard to access the foyer area.
13. Do I need to vacate my room over Christmas / Easter holidays?
No, students are free to stay in halls during these vacation periods.
14. Are the kitchens open 24/7?
Yes 🙂
15. Do you have Sky Sports on the TV’s?
Unfortunately we don’t – if you want to watch sports, they are often showing in the Eastside bar, underneath Linstead hall.
16. Are there any formal events? What shall I wear?
You will be invited to some formal hall events perhaps once a term with Wilkinson Hall (and more if you wish with the Unions and societies). So some smart attire (eg Black Tie) would be useful if you have it. However, if you wish to dress casually at these hall events you are of course more than welcome. For guys, I would recommend getting hold of a tuxedo though because you will find there are lots and lots of Black Tie events now you’re at university!
